Altrove – Elsewhere

Altrove.

E ovunque, quell’eterea, tangibile inconsistenza.

Così, in quest’altrove senza confini, tutto accade senza compiersi davvero.

ENGLISH

Elsewhere. A non-place of senses, fantasies and sensations. An ensemble of unfinished destinies and distractions upon an immaculate canvas.
A cartography of the soul, still poised between what was, what might have been, and what, stubbornly, refuses to fade.

A surreal reality, with surprisingly precise geographical coordinates, yet so elusive that it slips into the imagination. Places I have wandered through a thousand times and never truly let go of, roads that lead elsewhere only to bring me back to the same point, seasons chasing one another without ever meeting, memories that take shape only to dissolve at the very instant I believe I can hold on to them.

And everywhere, that ethereal, tangible insubstantiality. A presence that moves silently through every place I call elsewhere, hiding in the light, mingling with the wind, suddenly resurfacing in the uncertainty of a color, in the gentle tenderness of a spring, in the final, aching surrender of an autumn that never stops whispering.

She need not be there. She need never even have been there. All it takes is her inimitable way of inhabiting absence, of turning emptiness into resonance, memory into desire, desire into a melancholy so sweet that, if only for an instant, it almost feels like happiness.

And so, in this boundless elsewhere, everything happens, yet nothing is ever quite complete. Days overlap with nights, distances forget all measure, time loses its inexorable geometry. Things seen blur into things longed for, words into thoughts, encounters into missed rendezvous, dreams into the memory of dreams I have probably never had.

And then I lose myself. Once again, magnificently, deliberately, I lose myself.
Escaping into music, poetry and the lightness of youth, heedless of passing years, miles and disillusionment. With the same stubbornness, with the same wonder.

For elsewhere is not a place to be reached, but something that lives within us. An infinite distance between the world we have been granted and the one we have never ceased to imagine.
