Mr Chow

Rientro a New York, dopo uno strano pomeriggio passato a Jersey City.

I came back to New York, after a strange afternoon in Jersey City.
I arrived in Christopher Street, but the atmosphere in the Village is not that good.
So, walking along Greenwich Street, I ended up in Tribeca.

It’s late and I’m starving.
I check a couple of places and I find this modern and classy Chinese restaurant: Mr Chow.

I think that, dressed as I am, they won’t let me in, but New York is a surprising city.
A very elegant waiter, takes me to a table on the veranda.
The evening is warm but breezy.

The food is beyond my wildest expectations. Scallop in slightly spicy sauce, steamed stuffed sole dumplings and a fabulous plate of shrimp with vegetables, served with plain rice.
The peaceful Tribeca’s night was a perfect companion to me.

Flo Fox

Ieri ho fatto visita a Flo Fox.

Grazie mille!

Yesterday I visited Flo Fox.
A great photographer and a very original person.
Forced by illness to sit in a chair, surrounded by shadows and her objects that tell stories.

Kertesz, Weegee, Herwitt’s pictures on the walls.
Brilliant ideas of those who hold the light inside her.

Thank you very much for the life lesson Flo.
Thank you very much!

Slowhand

English

Eric Clapton’s guitar triggered this short session of night photography.

His “slow” and great hand went through my mind, thought after thought, leaving nothing but music in my head.

Buon Compleanno Photogeisha! – Happy Birthday Photogeisha!

English

Happy Birthday Photogeisha!

It’s been a year since this adventure started.
We grew up without losing our identity, our philosophy, our thought.
And even we let our feelings go free and windswept on the high seas, we’ve never got lost.

It doesn’t matter where I am: Tokyo, Shanghai, Rome, Paris or New York.
As long as my creativity and my Muse will inspire me, I will always be here for you to portrait my emotions.

I will keep singing for you like a piano man, like a perfect “visual poet”, falling further in love with his never-ending Spring.

English

It ‘s amazing how the imagination is affected by globalization.

I was on Fifth Avenue, when I saw this shop window.
A déjà vu took me instantly back to two months ago, to a cool evening in Hong Kong: https://umbertostefanelli.com/photogeisha/?p=1925

If we keep going like this, in few years it will be better to stay home, in front of the fireplace, with a good glass of wine in hand.

It’s sad, but this is it!

Su quante strade avrei potuto intraprendere, in quanti modi diversi avrei potuto perdermi.

English

Another airport, another departure.
Every time I leave a far away place, a part of me died in the uncertainty of return.

It ‘s a strange sensation, which leads me to think about choices in life.
How many roads I could have taken, in how many ways I could have been lost.

But today I will not yield to sadness and melancholy.
Today I wanna face the Big Apple with a tail wind.

My ten pictures story

Dieci scatti in quarantacinque minuti. Né uno di più, né uno di meno.
Obiettivo rigorosamente in orizzontale.

English

Ten shots in forty-five minutes. Only ten.
A 35 mm lens. Just horizontal pictures.

A not easy challenge in a town of four people.
A return to the style of my past.

I pushed my ideas and my imagination and I crystallized the relentless beat of time.

I tell the tale of Lily in my own way, along with the Angel, which continues to hold my hand.

La Dog House – The Dog House

Lasciatemela racchiudere in quattro brevissimi pensieri.

English

I have no words to describe the delirium of the Dog House. A milion pictures wouldn’t be enough.

I am stunned and confused. Let me compress it in four visual memories.
